The day started with a worship service at the Katale African Gospel Church. It was a wonderful time of worshipping our God with our brothers and sisters in Wilson's village.
After church we returned to Wilson's house for lunch. I had my first experience driving in Uganda:-) Wilson lent his car to a friend to go and pick up Julene from the airport so he borrowed a friend's car to get home. However, it had a manual transmission and Wilson did not know how to drive it. Even though they drive on the opposite side of the car from what I'm used to, the pedals were still the same (clutch on the left) so I felt comfortable enough to give it a try. So three of us plus Wilson and four children piled into the car and off we went. It was only about a half mile and the roads are so bad that I never had to get out of second gear; nonetheless, it was still an exciting experience.
While we were having lunch at Wilson's house, Julene arrived from the airport. Shortly after we went to the school and participated in what was essentially a PTA meeting. By the end of the meeting there were about 25 parents present. Wilson introduced our group to the parents and talked about our involvement with the school. He then had the parents share a little about themselves and their children in the school so that we could know each other and "cooperate" with each other. The meeting lasted almost two hours and was a good experience seeing how Wilson interacted with the parents of the students. After the meeting we returned to the guest house where we met Dan and Melody Anderson, Nazarene missionaries in Uganda. We had a wonderful dinner and conversation with them that lasted almost three hours. We discussed what we were doing in Uganda and listened as they told us about some of their experiences in Uganda and Kenya (they have been here for 27 years!). We were all very tired after a long day. |
Our Mission
God looked for someone to stand “in the gap” on behalf of people in great need. Instead, God found a conspiracy of extortion, oppression, and injustice (Ezekiel 22:29-30). GAP International, in contrast, seeks to ... - motivate people to generosity,
- humbly serve the marginalized and disenfranchised,
- make room for others through hospitality and compassionate care.
We are compelled to be persons of reconciliation in gratitude for Jesus’ love for us (2 Corinthians 5:14, 20).
GAP International was founded as a Great Commission response to the Great Commandment: love God and neighbor (Luke 10:27). As an expression of love for God, GAP International will love others and embody the gospel of Jesus Christ by building bridges between persons so that skills and resources are shared with those who have a vision to meet the needs of people in their communities.

I hope that my achievements in life shall be these—that I will have fought for what was right and fair, that I will have risked for that which mattered, that I will have given help to those who were in need, and that I will have left the earth a better place for what I’ve done and who I’ve been. ~C.
